Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 30, 2025

Thank you for choosing Renamio. File renaming and rule execution stay on your device; we also collect limited, no-file-content telemetry to keep the app reliable and improve features. This policy explains how data is handled and your rights.

Table of Contents

1. Information Collection

Desktop Application:

File handling stays local. To improve stability, prevent abuse, and guide feature decisions, the Renamio desktop app collects pseudonymous usage statistics. The data we collect includes:

  • Feature usage (rule types used, rename operations)
  • Operation data (number of files processed, rule count, favorites count)
  • AI feature usage (AI type, file count processed, operation results)
  • Interface interactions (button clicks, settings changes)
  • Pseudonymous user identity (uTools user ID and username) for deduplication and troubleshooting; no login tokens or file details are included

Important: We do NOT collect your file names, file paths, file contents, or specific rule parameters. All collected data is quantity statistics tied only to the pseudonymous identifier above and cannot identify your file contents.

Data analytics services are provided by PostHog. Data is transmitted with encryption. Raw event data is retained for up to 12 months, after which it is aggregated or deleted. Access is limited to Renamio analytics/operations personnel for debugging and product improvement.

You will be asked for consent on first use, and you can change this anytime in Settings.

Official Website:

Our official website (https://renamio.app) uses Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous visitor data, including page views, download clicks, device types, and approximate geographic location. This data is used solely to improve website experience and does not contain personally identifiable information. You can opt out via browser plugins or private browsing mode.

2. Website Analytics and Cookies

Our official website (not the desktop app) uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site, helping us improve user experience.

Data Collected:

  • Page views and session duration
  • Download button click behavior (platform selection, page location, etc.)
  • Device type, browser type, and operating system
  • Approximate geographic location (country/region level, IP addresses are anonymized)
  • Referral source (which website you came from)

Cookie Usage: Google Analytics stores cookies in your browser (e.g., _ga, _gid) to distinguish visitors and track sessions. These cookies do not contain personally identifiable information.

Data Retention: Website analytics data is retained in Google Analytics for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

Third-Party Processing: Collected data is processed by Google LLC. Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Opt-Out Options: You can refuse website analytics through:

  • Installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser settings
  • Using private/incognito browsing mode

Important Note: Website analytics only apply to our official website (https://renamio.app). The desktop app has no website analytics or cookies; only the usage telemetry described in Section 1 applies to the app.

3. Local Data Processing

All rename operations and rule computations are performed locally on your device; nothing passes through our servers. File paths and names are used only for on-device processing and are never exported, cached to the cloud, or profiled.

4. AI Feature (Optional)

The AI feature is off by default and only works when you explicitly enable it and provide your own OpenAI/Claude API key. When used, prompts and necessary context are sent directly from your device to the third-party service you configure; Renamio does not proxy, store, or inspect this data. Please follow the terms of the chosen service and safeguard your API key.

5. Third-Party Services

AI Features (Desktop Application): Only when you enable AI features, data is directly exchanged with the third-party model provider you select (such as OpenAI, Anthropic).

Usage Analytics (Desktop Application): We use PostHog for pseudonymous usage analytics. Data may include device/session information and the uTools user ID/username noted above for deduplication and abuse prevention.

Website Analytics (Official Website): Our official website uses Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC) for visitor analysis. Google's data processing follows its privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out plugin: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Renamio does not share any data with other third parties and does not engage in advertising or remarketing.

6. Data Security

The app runs locally with minimal system writes and follows least-privilege access for file handling. Local settings (preferences, rule collections) stay on your device; we recommend using OS permissions and disk encryption where applicable. API keys remain local and under your control.

7. Your Rights

You have full control over your data. You may delete configurations, clear caches (if any), and uninstall at any time. If you disable the AI feature or remove your API key, Renamio will cease any external data transfer.

8. Policy Updates

We may update this policy as features or regulations change and will mark the latest date on the website or release notes. Material changes will be highlighted in update notes; continuing to use the app signifies acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Contact

For privacy questions or suggestions, please contact us via email. We will respond and address your feedback within a reasonable timeframe.
