Are files uploaded to the cloud?
Fixed-rule renaming runs locally. AI features send naming information to your configured model service. If you allow content access, extracted text or images may also be sent. Model charges come from that provider. Choose content permissions to suit your files.
Will it lag when processing large batches of files?
Processing speed depends on file count, rule complexity, and your hardware. For large collections, consider smaller batches.
Can I combine multiple rules?
You can combine 16+ rule types and drag to reorder them. Each rule receives the filename produced by the previous rule.
Can I undo if I make a mistake?
Yes. The free plan keeps 7 days of rename history; the advanced license keeps 30 days. You can undo renames from history. Moving or modifying files afterward may prevent an undo, so preview new names before applying changes.
Which operating systems are supported?
Renamio supports Windows and macOS operating systems as a standalone desktop application.
Does monitoring handle every folder change?
New, moved-in, and renamed files trigger processing. Content-only edits do not, and starting a task does not process existing files. Basic fixed-rule monitoring is available on the free plan; continuous AI monitoring, reviewable AI suggestions, and recursive subfolders require the advanced license. New tasks create suggestions for review by default; enable automatic renaming in task settings to apply future names.
Will monitoring keep running after I close the window?
The application process must stay running. In uTools, enable starting the plugin with the main program and disable ending it immediately in the background. The desktop app can launch at login. Fully quitting the app or plugin stops monitoring.
Is it free or paid?
Renamio follows a "free core + paid advanced" model. The free plan includes core batch renaming, manual filename AI naming, AI-generated basic fixed rules, and one enabled monitor task. Upgrade when you need content-based naming, continuous AI monitoring, recursive subfolders, more rules, or more custom AI templates.
How are AI usage costs billed?
AI requests use the model service you configure, and that provider bills model usage directly; Renamio does not collect those charges. Free filename AI naming and AI-generated basic fixed rules remain subject to free-plan quotas. Content-based naming and continuous AI monitoring require the advanced license.
